Here it is. My latest HUGE project.
Rams and Yowes is an amazing colourwork blanket/shawl by the amazing Kate Davies (of ‘Owls’ fame) which uses all 9 of the natural shades of Jamieson and Smith Shetland Supreme Jumper Weight.
2013 is a big year for me and I’ll be moving come July to a new home to start a new job in a new career but right now I have no idea where that new home or new job will be, and in all honesty I’ve been feeling a little unsettled. I fell in love with the pattern back when it was released and it sat in my favorites for ages, the fortune of a little spending money from Christmas and the uncertainty of the year ahead made for a perfect combo to get this beautiful blanket into my hands!
Initially i was going to change the colour scheme, but after hours of scouring through colour schemes on Ravelry I decided that to do this blanket justice it would have to be done in the original yarn with which it was intended to be made.
Progress is quicker than I expected, colourwork is so addictive I can easily find myself knitting 7-8 rows in a night. The yarn has a quality which somehow makes colourwork seem effortless……and it’s great watching the pattern come through.
So far I’m just starting the third row of Yowes, hampered slightly by realising that I’d started the wrong yarn which involved unknitting 7 rows….glad I did though as I whilst normally with my knitting I am not overly fussed about little errors (makes it look handmade!!) the colour error would have affected the look of the blanket!
Sure there’ll be a few more posts on this to come – but for now i’m back to the dissertation!
lots of love
Shoe xx

That blanket is going to be fabulous – it will be just the thing for draping on the settee ready for the cold and dark evenings when it keeps the knees warm while sipping a dram of something medicinal. I am looking forward to seeing it as it gets completed.
Thank you! I’m totally addicted to it-it’s lovely as its so easy to pick up and just do a little bit! Sure there’ll be plenty more pics to come! X
Chloe it’s amazing – I am so pleased you have the colourwork bug. I am considering treating myself to the hat version of this pattern but I am working on a new iMake pattern at the moment so it will have to wait. How’s your tension holding up? Are you knitting with both hands? xx
Aw thanks Martine! I’m knitting with both hands on the rows where there is only 1 or 2 stitches of the contrast colour-struggling to find a left hand yarn hold I’m comfortable with! Tension seems ok-yarn is a dream to knit with so it doesn’t involve too much thought!! Ah exciting! Twiglet mitts is my next project-this is getting to big to carry abound so will need something smaller!! Xx
Oh, I just love all of Kate’s designs and that one in particular.. very good choice! I’m also a student, and, reading your blog, it’s funny how many things in your posts remind me of my own experiences – naughty purchases of yarn, end of degree approaching, uncertainty for what to expect next, love of certain designs… thanks for the good reads
Aw thank you for your lovely comment. Kate Davies is just incredible – i’m hoping to have her new book for my birthday tomorrow (or some pennies to buy it) as I have my eye on one of her cardi’s! Can’t recommend the pattern enough for Rams and Yowes – it’s surprisingly quick and a lovely lovely knit! (ps – loving your goth neckwarmer – gorgeous!!)
