Morning!
Today is Results Day! Being in the 3rd year of my degree the pressure of this triannual event seems to be getting rather intense and as they’re not released until 9.30 I thought this was a perfect window of time to write my usual Making Monday blog post. For once I’m actually worried, this term was hard and the assignments were so much more difficult than they have been but I’m trying to stay positive!
Whilst trying to resurrect my blog last week i came across a post I wrote back in July 2011 about the end of my first year of ‘Midwifery School’ (Midwifery Milestone). WOWZERS where has time gone. I’m a meager six months away from being a qualified Midwife now and the time has literally just flown. I’ve been fortunate enough to help bring 43 babies into the world and each one is just as special as the last, and I still love going into placement waiting for handover wondering who you will meet – more incredible people than I ever imagined!
Whilst the stresses and strains of life as a Student Midwife are many, there are so many magical moments that it’s hard to be complacent after a run of night shifts, or a busy clinic. I still love those first few seconds of a lifetime bond between mother and baby, or the first time a dad hears the heartbeat at clinic. I love watching older siblings meet their new little brother or sister, and I’m always the one asking if someone wants me to take the first family photo (I’m not sure some of the mums really appreciate me doing this at the time!).
Yes there are days when I want to hide under my duvet and pretend I’m not doing this, but all it usually takes is a little time to think about all the amazing people I’ve met and that little flame of excitement starts to burn and before I know it I’m back on my feet trudging on through the assignments and enjoying my last few months as a Student Midwife!
Anyway – onto some knitting!
I’ve made good progress with Selbu Modern this week, and am now about half way though the main body of pattern. I’m still all over the place with my tension and have discovered i’m actually better if I don’t think about it so it’s made good TV knitting this week! I’m hoping it will work out OK when I block it – I’m itching to get this finished so I can get on with my ‘huge project’ although i’m still awaiting some yarn……
Happy Making Monday
lots of love
